Kieffer Pear
The Kieffer is an American pear raised near Philadelphia about 1863, a hybrid of the Chinese sand pear and a European variety. Large and golden-yellow, with coarse, gritty, juicy flesh, it was prized less for fresh eating than for its heavy bearing, disease resistance and excellence in canning and cooking.
