York Apple

York Imperial is a late-season American apple that originated near York, Pennsylvania in the 1830s. Its lopsided, oblique shape and firm, sweet-tart yellow flesh made it a leading commercial keeper and processing apple through the 19th and early 20th centuries — which is why it appears so often among the USDA watercolours.
